Yes — most Miles addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Miles

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering how much electricity you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on power in Miles. Why is this so vital?

The “price per kWh” you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you use in a month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your power plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the perfect energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is done in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers to guide you to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money goes and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your chosen electricity company without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before picking the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Miles: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Miles, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching Electricity Companies in Miles

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so shopping for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires is essential.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to act, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new energy company will handle everything, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Miles is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Miles Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Miles was founded in 1906 as a railroad town along the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway, which was part of an ambitious but ultimately failed attempt to connect Kansas City to the Pacific Ocean through Mexico. The town was named after John D. Miles, a federal Indian agent, and quickly became a shipping point for cotton and cattle from the surrounding Runnels County ranches.

RECENT

In 2020, Miles ISD made headlines by becoming one of the smallest school districts in Texas to implement a comprehensive one-to-one technology program, providing every student from kindergarten through 12th grade with their own laptop computer. This initiative was funded through a combination of federal grants and local fundraising efforts, demonstrating the community's commitment to educational excellence despite its small size.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Miles is the hometown of legendary Texas high school football coach Gordon Wood, who won more games than any other high school football coach in Texas history with 396 victories. Wood coached at Miles High School in the 1940s before moving on to larger schools, but he always credited his time in Miles as foundational to developing his coaching philosophy that would later bring him nine state championships.

DID YOU KNOW

Miles holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the railroad tracks run directly down the middle of Main Street, with businesses on both sides. This unique layout was created because the original surveyor made an error in 1906, placing the business district too close to the tracks, so rather than relocate everything, the town simply built around the railway, creating a main street unlike any other in Texas.

CULTURAL

Every October, Miles hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Festival' where the entire population of 829 residents works together to create the world's longest pumpkin pie, stretching over 100 feet down Main Street. The tradition began in 1987 when a local farmer had an exceptionally large pumpkin harvest and has since become a regional attraction that draws visitors from across West Texas, with the recipe remaining a closely guarded community secret passed down through generations.
