Who delivers electricity in Eden

AEP North owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Eden. Whichever plan you pick, AEP North still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Quick answers

Eden electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP North territory average 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.6¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

AEP North is Eden’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; AEP North delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Eden addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Eden today is 6.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Eden, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric provider in Eden.

Energy in Eden has been deregulated. As a resident, you can choose when picking a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bills.

Deregulating electricity in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Eden included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent energy providers compete for your business in Eden by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your electricity bill.

As many as 65+ retail electricity providers compete for your business in Eden, with hundreds of plans to choose from.

How to find the best energy plan in Eden

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Understanding the energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to shop for power in Eden. Why should you care?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your energy company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your chosen electricity provider without leaving our service.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Eden: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Eden, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Eden

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Eden is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Eden was founded in 1882 when the Santa Fe Railroad extended its line through Concho County, establishing the town as a shipping point for local ranchers and farmers. The town was named after Eden Valley, which early settlers believed resembled the biblical Garden of Eden with its fertile soil and abundant spring water that supported agriculture in an otherwise arid region.

RECENT

In 2020, Eden completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, street lighting, and landscaping. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, bringing new life to the small town's commercial district and attracting visitors from surrounding areas.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Eden was the childhood home of country music songwriter Red Lane, who wrote numerous hit songs for Merle Haggard including 'The Emptiest Arms in the World' and 'Things Aren't Funny Anymore.' Lane grew up on a ranch outside Eden in the 1940s and often credited his West Texas upbringing for inspiring his authentic country music style that resonated with audiences nationwide.

DID YOU KNOW

Eden is home to one of the last remaining original Santa Fe Railroad depots in West Texas, built in 1907 and still standing in its original location. The depot served as the town's lifeline to the outside world for decades, and local legend claims that famous outlaw Sam Bass once hid stolen gold near the railroad tracks, though treasure hunters have never found any evidence of the cache.

CULTURAL

Every September, Eden hosts the annual Concho County Fair and Rodeo, which has been a tradition since 1923 and draws visitors from across West Texas. The event features traditional rodeo competitions, a livestock show, and the famous 'Eden Lamb Fry' cooking contest, where local cooks compete to prepare the best dish using lamb from the area's renowned sheep ranches that have operated for over a century.
