How to find the best energy plan in East Bernard

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Discovering the amount of electricity you will use each month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in East Bernard. Why does this matter?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your electricity rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the ideal energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen energy company without ever leaving our service.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to East Bernard: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in East Bernard, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in East Bernard

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in East Bernard is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest price.

You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

East Bernard was founded in 1895 when the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway built through the area, naming the town after Bernard River which flows nearby. The community was originally settled by Czech and German immigrants who came to farm the rich bottomland along the San Bernard River, establishing it as an agricultural hub in Wharton County.

RECENT

In 2019, East Bernard completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks and streetscaping. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local investment, bringing new businesses and renewed pride to the small community's historic core.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

East Bernard is the hometown of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Y.A. Tittle, who played for the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and Baltimore Colts from 1948-1964. Tittle led the Giants to three consecutive NFL Championship games in the early 1960s and was known for his leadership and passing accuracy, earning him induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

DID YOU KNOW

East Bernard holds the unusual distinction of being one of the few Texas towns where the high school football team plays on a field that sits directly on top of an active oil well. The well was drilled in the 1940s beneath what is now the 50-yard line, and it continues to produce oil today while the Brahmas play football above it, making it perhaps the only 'petroleum-powered' football field in America.

CULTURAL

East Bernard celebrates its Czech and German heritage every October with the annual Czechfest, featuring traditional polka music, authentic kolaches, and folk dancing that draws visitors from across Southeast Texas. The festival has been held for over 40 years and showcases the town's deep European roots, with many families still maintaining recipes and traditions passed down from their immigrant ancestors who settled the area in the late 1800s.
