As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP North territory average 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.6¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Crowell addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Crowell today is 6.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Crowell

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Understanding the electricity you consume monthly is the best way to find a deal on energy in Crowell. Why should you care?

You see energy companies advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in a month.

Unless you match the advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an electricity plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers, and guide you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected power company without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Crowell: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Crowell, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Crowell

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Crowell is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Crowell was founded in 1891 and named after George T. Crowell, the general manager of the Fort Worth and Denver Railway. The town was established as a shipping point for cattle and cotton, becoming the county seat of Foard County when it was organized in 1891, making it one of the youngest county seats in Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Crowell completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street, including the 1920s-era Crowell State Bank building. The project brought new businesses to the downtown core and created a walking trail that connects the historic courthouse square to the city park.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Crowell was the childhood home of Ricky Lynn Gregg, a country music singer who had several hits in the 1990s including 'If I Had a Cheatin' Heart.' Gregg grew up on a ranch outside Crowell and often referenced his small-town Texas roots in his music before moving to Nashville to pursue his recording career.

DID YOU KNOW

Crowell is home to one of the last remaining original Texaco service stations from the 1930s, complete with the original red star logo and vintage gas pumps. The station, now a museum, still has the original hydraulic lift and tools, and was featured in a documentary about Route 6, the historic highway that once ran through town connecting it to larger cities.

CULTURAL

Every October, Crowell hosts the annual 'Threshing Bee,' a celebration of the area's agricultural heritage where vintage tractors and threshing machines from the 1920s-1940s are demonstrated in working condition. Local farmers bring their antique equipment to show how wheat was harvested before modern combines, and the event includes a community barbecue and live music that draws visitors from across North Texas.
