How to find the best energy plan in Crosby

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Discovering how much energy you will consume in a month is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Crosby. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will change according to how much energy you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for power providers.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to determine the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen electricity provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should know your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business and cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Crosby: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Crosby, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Crosby

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is vital to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will generally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Crosby is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Crosby was founded in 1900 and named after G.J. Crosby, a civil engineer who surveyed the area for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The town grew rapidly as a railroad junction and lumber center, with the discovery of oil in the nearby East Texas fields in the 1930s transforming it from a sleepy farming community into a bustling industrial hub that served the growing petrochemical industry along the Houston Ship Channel.

RECENT

In 2017, Hurricane Harvey devastated Crosby when the Arkema chemical plant experienced multiple explosions and fires after losing power to its refrigeration systems. The incident forced the evacuation of residents within a 1.5-mile radius and brought national attention to the community's resilience, as neighbors helped neighbors rebuild and the town emerged stronger with improved emergency preparedness protocols.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star Tracy Byrd was born and raised in Crosby, where he developed his love for traditional country music. He went on to achieve major success in the 1990s with hits like 'Holdin' Heaven' and 'Watermelon Crawl,' always proudly representing his small East Texas hometown and often returning to perform at local venues and charity events.

DID YOU KNOW

Crosby is home to one of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in the Houston area, the Crosby Drive-In Theatre, which has been operating since 1950. The theater survived the digital conversion that killed most drive-ins by crowdfunding the expensive digital projection equipment, and it now shows double features on two screens while serving classic concession stand fare from the original 1950s snack bar building.

CULTURAL

Every October, Crosby hosts the annual Crosby Fair and Rodeo, a week-long celebration that has been a community tradition for over 70 years. The event features professional rodeo competitions, carnival rides, live country music concerts, and a famous barbecue cook-off that draws teams from across Texas, with all proceeds supporting local youth programs and scholarships for Crosby ISD students.
