Who delivers electricity in Conroe

CenterPoint owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Conroe. Yes — most Conroe addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Conroe today is 5.9¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

You have the power to choose your household’s electric provider in Conroe.

These official rates are the identical prices you’ll find contacting the electricity companies or visiting them online.

This assists Texas consumers in avoiding hidden fees and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours calling different energy providers or sorting through dozens of online sites.

Energy in Conroe has been deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you insight and command over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Conroe included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Conroe by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your electricity statement.

As many as 65+ providers compete for your account in Conroe, and hundreds of plans exist.

How to find the best energy plan in Conroe

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Knowing the amount of energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to shop for power in Conroe. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an energy plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the perfect electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen power provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you should know your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Conroe: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Conroe, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Conroe

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so shopping for a lower rate every year when your contract expires is essential.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Conroe is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Conroe was founded in 1881 by Isaac Conroe, a Union Army cavalry officer who became a lumber baron after the Civil War. The city grew rapidly around his sawmill operations, which processed the vast East Texas pine forests, and by 1885 it had become the largest lumber shipping point in Texas with multiple railroad lines converging to transport timber nationwide.

RECENT

In 2020, Conroe completed construction of the $60 million Conroe Tower, a 17-story mixed-use development that became the tallest building between Houston and Dallas. The project transformed downtown Conroe with luxury condos, office space, and retail, marking the city's emergence as a major suburban center rather than just a bedroom community.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music superstar Mark Chesnutt was born and raised in Conroe, where his father Bob Chesnutt was a local honky-tonk singer. Mark got his start performing at Cutter's Nightclub in Conroe in the 1980s before becoming a major Nashville star with hits like 'Brother Jukebox' and 'I Just Wanted You to Know,' always crediting his East Texas roots for his traditional country sound.

DID YOU KNOW

Lake Conroe was created in 1973 by damming the West Fork of the San Jacinto River, but the lake accidentally became a hot water fishery due to a power plant's cooling system discharge. This warm water created a year-round bass fishing paradise that now hosts major tournaments, and the lake maintains water temperatures 8-10 degrees warmer than normal, allowing tropical fish species to survive Texas winters.

CULTURAL

Conroe is home to the Crighton Theatre, a beautifully restored 1934 Art Deco movie palace that now serves as a premier live performance venue. The theater was saved from demolition in the 1990s by community volunteers who raised over $2 million for restoration, and it now hosts Broadway touring shows, concerts, and the annual Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival, drawing visitors from across the Houston metropolitan area.
