Who delivers electricity in Clute

CenterPoint owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Clute. Yes — most Clute addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

These official rates are the same rates you’ll find calling the energy providers or visiting them online.

Energy in Clute is deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy provider), which gives you control and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for most of Texas, including the city of Clute, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Clute by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save money on your power statement.

As many as 100+ retail electricity providers compete for your business in Clute, and there are hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Clute

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Determining the amount of energy you will use month-to-month is the best way to shop for energy in Clute. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your power company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the ideal energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers to guide you to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen electricity company without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Clute: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Clute, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Clute

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will generally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Clute is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Clute was founded in 1943 and named after Solomon Clute, a prominent local landowner and businessman who owned vast tracts of land in the area. The city was incorporated during World War II when the nearby Dow Chemical plant was rapidly expanding to support the war effort, bringing thousands of workers to the region who needed housing and services.

RECENT

In 2019, Clute completed a major downtown revitalization project that included the construction of a new community center and the renovation of several historic buildings along Highway 332. The project was funded through a combination of federal grants and local bonds, transforming the city's core into a more vibrant commercial and community hub.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Clute is home to the annual Great Texas Mosquito Festival, which has been held every July since 1981 and attracts over 20,000 visitors each year. The festival features live music, carnival rides, and the crowning of the Mosquito Queen, making it one of the most unique summer celebrations in Southeast Texas.

DID YOU KNOW

Clute sits on land that was once part of a massive sugar plantation system in the 1800s, and during construction projects, workers still occasionally uncover old sugar mill equipment and plantation artifacts buried in the soil. The city's location along Oyster Creek made it an ideal spot for transporting sugar cane to refineries in nearby towns via shallow-draft boats.

CULTURAL

Clute has earned recognition as the 'Mosquito Capital of Texas' and has fully embraced this unusual distinction by making Willie Man-Chew, a 26-foot-tall fiberglass mosquito, the official city mascot. Willie Man-Chew stands proudly in Clute Municipal Park and has become a beloved roadside attraction, with visitors from across the country stopping to take photos with the giant insect.
