Who delivers electricity in Cisco

AEP North owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Cisco. Whichever plan you pick, AEP North still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes AEP North delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Cisco electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP North territory average 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.6¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

AEP North is Cisco’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; AEP North delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Cisco addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Cisco today is 6.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Cisco, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

You have the power to choose your household’s electric company in Cisco.

Compare Power is a free consumer service established in 2009 to assist residents of Cisco in searching for their lowest-rate energy plan.

Plan information is presented in a user-friendly format that enables quick and simple comparison of available plans and options.

Competing offers from many electricity providers are presented in a convenient layout that makes comparing your options simple and quick.

This allows Texas energy customers to avoid hidden fees and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours calling different energy companies or sorting through hundreds of online sites.

Energy in Cisco is deregulated. As an energy customer, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of electricity in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for most of Texas, the city of Cisco included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Cisco by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your energy statement.

As many as 65+ energy companies compete for your account in Cisco, and hundreds of plans exist to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Cisco

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to shop for power in Cisco. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an energy provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your selected energy provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you must know your expected or historical usage before ordering the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Cisco: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Cisco, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Cisco

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Cisco is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Cisco was founded in 1881 when the Texas and Pacific Railway came through the area, and it was named after John Cisco, a New York financier who helped fund the railroad's construction. The town quickly became a major shipping point for cattle and agricultural products, earning the nickname 'The Oil City' during the 1919 oil boom when the discovery of oil transformed this small farming community into a bustling boomtown almost overnight.

RECENT

In 2020, Cisco completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Conrad Hilton Avenue, including the old Mobley Hotel where Conrad Hilton got his start in the hotel business. The project brought new businesses to the downtown core and created a heritage tourism trail that has attracted visitors from across Texas interested in the Hilton hotel empire's humble beginnings.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton Hotels empire, purchased his first hotel in Cisco in 1919 - the Mobley Hotel, which still stands today as a museum. Hilton paid $40,000 for the property during the oil boom and turned it into his first successful hospitality venture, renting beds in shifts to oil workers around the clock. This small-town investment launched what would become one of the world's largest hotel chains.

DID YOU KNOW

Cisco is home to the 'Santa Claus Bank Robbery' of December 23, 1927, which became one of Texas's most infamous crimes when four men dressed as Santa Claus and his helpers attempted to rob the First National Bank. The robbery went horribly wrong, resulting in a shootout that killed two police officers and two civilians, with the entire town mobilizing to hunt down the perpetrators. The event was so notorious that it inspired books, documentaries, and is still reenacted annually during the town's Hilton Community Christmas celebration.

CULTURAL

Every December, Cisco hosts the annual 'Hilton Community Christmas' celebration that combines honoring their famous hotel magnate with commemorating the infamous Santa Claus Bank Robbery through historical reenactments and tours. The town has embraced both its glamorous Hilton connection and its notorious criminal history as part of its unique identity. Visitors can tour the original Mobley Hotel, now a museum, and walk the same streets where the dramatic 1927 bank robbery unfolded, making Cisco a fascinating destination for both hospitality history buffs and true crime enthusiasts.
