How to find the best energy plan in Brookshire

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Knowing the amount of energy you will consume month-to-month is the best way to shop for energy in Brookshire. Why does this matter?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different equation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in the month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your power rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find your home’s ideal electricity rate plan.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen energy company without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business and cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Brookshire: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Brookshire, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Brookshire

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Brookshire is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Brookshire was founded in 1896 when the Santa Fe Railroad established a depot at this location, naming it after Nathan Brookshire, a local landowner who donated land for the railroad right-of-way. The town quickly became a vital shipping point for cotton, cattle, and agricultural products from the surrounding Waller County farmlands, transforming from prairie land into a bustling railroad community within just a few years.

RECENT

In 2020, Brookshire completed a major downtown revitalization project that included new sidewalks, street lighting, and landscaping along Highway 90A. The city also opened a new community center and upgraded its water treatment facilities to accommodate growing residential development, as the town has experienced a 15% population increase since 2015 due to its proximity to Houston's expanding western suburbs.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Brookshire is the hometown of NFL linebacker Brian Cushing, who was born here in 1987 and went on to play for the Houston Texans and win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2009. The town also gained national attention in 2008 when it hosted the filming of several scenes for the movie 'The Blind Side,' with the local high school football field serving as a backdrop for key football sequences.

DID YOU KNOW

Brookshire sits directly on the path of the famous Chisholm Trail, and during construction of Highway 90A in the 1950s, workers discovered a perfectly preserved section of the original cattle trail complete with wagon wheel ruts still visible in the hardpan clay. The section was so well-preserved that archaeologists were able to identify specific cattle brands burned into wooden fence posts that had been buried for over 70 years, providing a direct link to the great cattle drives of the 1870s.

OTHER

CULTURAL/UNIQUE: Every October, Brookshire hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Festival' which features the unique tradition of 'pumpkin bowling' where contestants roll giant pumpkins down Main Street to knock over hay bale pins. The festival began in 1987 when a local farmer had an oversupply of pumpkins and decided to donate them for a community celebration, and it has since grown into a regional attraction that draws over 5,000 visitors annually. The event also features the crowning of the 'Pumpkin King and Queen,' chosen not by beauty but by whoever can carve the most creative jack-o'-lantern using only traditional farming tools.
