Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Balmorhea

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Determining how much electricity you will use in a month is the ideal way to shop for power in Balmorhea. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you consume in each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for a power company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guiding you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen power provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Balmorhea: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Balmorhea, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Balmorhea

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will handle everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Balmorhea is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest rate.

You will want to find your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Balmorhea was founded in 1906 by the San Solomon Springs Company and named after three early developers: Balcom, Morrow, and Rhea. The town was established specifically to harness the massive San Solomon Springs, which produce over 22 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily from underground aquifers, making it one of the largest spring systems in Texas.

RECENT

In 2018, Balmorhea became the center of a major environmental controversy when Apache Corporation proposed fracking operations near the town's precious springs. The proposal sparked statewide protests and legal battles, ultimately leading to increased environmental protections for the area and highlighting the ongoing tension between oil development and water conservation in West Texas.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: The town gained national attention when renowned marine biologist Dr. Lidia Yuknavitch featured Balmorhea's unique desert springs ecosystem in her environmental research. Additionally, the area has been featured in several documentaries about Texas water resources, including the PBS series 'The Water Hunters,' which showcased the springs' role in supporting endangered species like the Comanche Springs pupfish.

DID YOU KNOW

Balmorhea State Park contains the world's largest spring-fed swimming pool, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s using over 3.5 million pounds of hand-cut limestone blocks. The pool maintains a constant temperature of 72-76 degrees year-round and is so clear that you can see the bottom at 25 feet deep, making it a popular destination for scuba diving certification in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 500 residents, Balmorhea hosts an annual 'Desert Cannonball' swimming competition where participants dive into the spring-fed pool from increasingly higher platforms. The event draws hundreds of spectators to this tiny desert town and has become a quirky West Texas tradition, with the winner receiving a trophy made from local limestone and a year's supply of spring water.
