Who delivers electricity in Baird

AEP North owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Baird. Whichever plan you pick, AEP North still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. As of August 2026, plans we offer in the AEP North territory average 16.1¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 6.6¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Baird addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric company in Baird.

These official rates are the same rates you’ll find contacting the energy providers or visiting their websites.

This assists Texas consumers to avoid hidden markups and advertising gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without throwing away hours and hours calling different energy companies or navigating dozens of different websites.

Electricity in Baird is deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when it comes to selecting a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you control and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of electricity in the state de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of the state, the city of Baird included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Baird by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your energy bill.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your account in Baird and there are hundreds of plans to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Baird

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Determining how much energy you will consume in a month is the best way to shop for energy in Baird. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much electricity you use each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your electricity company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to discover the right energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your chosen energy provider without leaving our website.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Baird: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Baird, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Baird

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy provider will handle everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Baird is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Baird was founded in 1880 as a railroad town when the Texas and Pacific Railway came through the area, and it was named after Matthew Baird, a locomotive manufacturer from Philadelphia. The town quickly became the county seat of Callahan County in 1883, beating out nearby Callahan City in a heated political battle that involved moving county records in the dead of night.

RECENT

In 2020, Baird completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Market Street, including the 1883 Callahan County Courthouse. The project brought new businesses to the downtown area and created a walking trail that connects the courthouse square to the city park, helping to preserve the town's frontier heritage while attracting new residents.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Baird was the childhood home of Clyde Barrow of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde duo, who lived here briefly in the early 1900s before his family moved to Dallas. The town also produced several notable rodeo champions, including world champion steer wrestler Roy Duvall, who won multiple Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association titles in the 1960s and helped put Baird on the map in rodeo circles.

DID YOU KNOW

Baird is home to one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in Texas, T&P Country Store, which has been serving customers since 1881 and still operates from its original building. The store maintains its original tin ceiling, wooden floors, and even some of the original merchandise displays, making it a living museum of frontier commerce that attracts visitors from across the state.

CULTURAL

Every September, Baird hosts the annual 'Antique Tractor and Engine Show' which draws thousands of visitors to see restored farm equipment dating back to the 1800s. The event features live demonstrations of vintage threshing machines, steam engines, and antique tractors, celebrating the agricultural heritage that built this West Texas community and keeping traditional farming methods alive for new generations.
