Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Avoca

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of energy you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Avoca. Why does this matter?

The “price per kWh” you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you consume in the month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your power plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the right energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you in ordering your plan with your chosen energy company without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Avoca: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Avoca, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when its time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Avoca

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Avoca is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly best price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Avoca was established in 1906 as a railroad town along the Abilene and Northern Railway, serving as a crucial shipping point for cotton and cattle in Jones County. The town was named after Avoca, Ireland, by early Irish settlers who saw similarities between the rolling hills of West Texas and their homeland. The railroad brought prosperity to the area, making it a vital agricultural hub during the early 20th century.

RECENT

In 2018, Avoca completed a major infrastructure improvement project that upgraded the city's water system and installed new LED streetlights throughout the downtown area. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local bonds, representing the largest municipal investment in the town's history. This modernization effort has helped attract new residents and businesses to the small community.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter Red Lane, who penned hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'If We Make It Through December,' spent part of his childhood in Avoca during the 1940s. Lane went on to become one of Nashville's most respected songwriters, with over 400 recorded songs to his credit. His connection to this tiny West Texas town remained a source of pride for locals throughout his successful career.

DID YOU KNOW

Avoca holds the unusual distinction of being one of the smallest incorporated cities in Texas to have its own municipal airport. The Avoca Municipal Airport, built in the 1960s, features a 3,200-foot runway that was originally constructed to serve local ranchers and oil field operations. Despite the town's population of fewer than 200 people, the airport still operates today and occasionally hosts vintage aircraft fly-ins that draw aviation enthusiasts from across the region.

CULTURAL

Every October, Avoca hosts the annual 'Pumpkin Days' festival, which transforms the tiny town into a fall celebration that draws visitors from throughout Jones County. The festival features a pumpkin patch, hayrides, and a chili cook-off, with all proceeds benefiting the local volunteer fire department. What makes this event unique is that nearly every resident of the town volunteers in some capacity, creating a true community effort that has become a beloved regional tradition for over three decades.
