TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Santo. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Quick answers

Santo electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Santo’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Santo addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Santo today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric provider in Santo.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to help residents of Santo shop for their best energy plan.

Plan information is presented in a user-friendly format that enables a quick and simple comparison of available plans and options.

Competing offers from many electricity providers are outlined in a powerful layout that makes comparing your options simple and fast.

Electricity in Santo is deregulated. As an energy customer, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Santo included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Santo by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your power statement.

As many as 65+ retail electricity providers compete for your account in Santo, with hundreds of plans to select from.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Santo

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of electricity you will consume month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on energy in Santo. Why should you care?

The rate electricity companies advertise for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your electricity plan.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the ideal energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you order your plan with your selected electricity provider without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you should understand your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average monthly energy usage.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Santo: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Santo, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: You can estimate your monthly usage if you can’t obtain a usage history. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Santo

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so shopping for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires is essential.

Your existing electricity provider will generally raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including canceling your service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Santo is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an “early cancellation” penalty. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Santo Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Santo was founded in 1880 as a railroad town along the Texas and Pacific Railway line, originally named 'Savage' after an early settler. The town was renamed Santo in 1882, which means 'saint' in Spanish, reportedly after a Mexican railroad worker suggested the name to honor the area's peaceful atmosphere and good fortune in avoiding the violent conflicts that plagued other frontier settlements.

RECENT

In 2020, Santo completed a major infrastructure upgrade project that brought high-speed fiber internet to this small rural community of just over 300 residents. The project, funded through a federal rural broadband initiative, has attracted several remote workers and small tech businesses to relocate to Santo, breathing new economic life into the historic downtown area.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music legend Bob Wills, known as the 'King of Western Swing,' spent part of his childhood in Santo during the early 1900s when his family moved around various North Texas communities. Wills later credited the diverse musical influences he encountered in small Texas towns like Santo for helping shape his revolutionary fusion of country, jazz, and swing music that made him famous.

DID YOU KNOW

Santo is home to one of the last remaining original wooden railroad depots from the 1880s Texas and Pacific Railway line, which still stands on Main Street and now serves as a community center. The depot's original telegraph equipment is still intact and functional, and local railroad enthusiasts occasionally demonstrate Morse code communications during the town's annual Heritage Days festival.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 350 residents, Santo maintains one of the most active volunteer fire departments per capita in Texas, with over 25% of the adult population serving as volunteer firefighters or EMTs. The department's annual barbecue fundraiser draws visitors from across Palo Pinto County and has become a beloved regional tradition, featuring live music, dancing, and the famous 'Santo Sauce' recipe that's been a closely guarded secret for over 40 years.
