Who delivers electricity in Meridian

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Meridian. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Meridian electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Meridian’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Meridian addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Meridian today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Meridian, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric company in Meridian.

Compare Power is a free consumer service started in 2009 to assist residents of Meridian in searching for their best energy plan.

These official rates are the identical prices you’ll find calling the energy providers or visiting them online.

This assures Texas consumers to avoid hidden charges and marketing gimmicks by comparing plans “apples-to-apples” without spending hours calling different energy companies or clicking through dozens of websites.

Electricity in Meridian is deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when selecting a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you insight and control over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for most of the state, the city of Meridian included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many excellent energy companies compete for your business in Meridian by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your electricity statement.

As many as 100+ providers compete for your business in Meridian, with hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to Find the Best Energy Plan in Meridian

#1 rule: Usage is key!

Determining how much energy you will consume each month is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Meridian. Why should you care?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will pay a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for an energy provider.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter and is the ideal way to determine the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assisting you step-by-step with the energy plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in signing up with your selected energy provider without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway here is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate your average energy in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Meridian: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up an electricity service in Meridian, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home to get the best rate.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching Electricity Companies in Meridian

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so shopping for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires is essential.

Your existing energy provider usually raises your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity provider will cover everything for you, including terminating your service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Meridian is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your contract ends without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the cheapest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you must collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Meridian Electricity Rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Meridian was founded in 1854 and named for its location on the 97th meridian west longitude, making it one of the few Texas towns named for its precise geographical coordinates. The town served as a crucial stop on the Chisholm Trail, where cattle drivers would rest and resupply before continuing their journey north to Kansas railheads.

RECENT

In 2020, Meridian completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Morgan Street, including the conversion of the old bank building into a community center. The project was funded through a combination of state historic preservation grants and local fundraising efforts that brought the community together.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Meridian was the childhood home of George W. Littlefield, who became one of Texas's most prominent cattlemen and bankers in the late 1800s. Littlefield later founded the American National Bank in Austin and donated millions to the University of Texas, with the campus's Littlefield Fountain named in his honor.

DID YOU KNOW

Meridian sits at the exact intersection of the 97th meridian west and the 32nd parallel north, making it one of only a handful of towns in America located at precise coordinate intersections. The town's founders used surveying equipment to ensure the courthouse square was built at the exact geographical center point, and a brass marker still exists today marking the spot.

CULTURAL

Every October, Meridian hosts the annual Bosque River Festival, which celebrates the town's connection to the Bosque River with canoe races, fishing tournaments, and traditional Texas barbecue competitions. The festival draws visitors from across Central Texas and features live country music performances on a stage built from reclaimed wood from historic local barns.
