Who delivers electricity in Jermyn

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Jermyn. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Yes — most Jermyn addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Jermyn today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Jermyn

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Knowing how much electricity you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Jermyn. Why is this so vital?

You see energy providers advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find the perfect electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in a few moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected electricity company without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Jermyn: Setting up Electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Jermyn, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Jermyn

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Jermyn is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

You will want to find your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Jermyn electricity rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Jermyn was founded in 1882 as a railroad town along the Fort Worth and Denver Railway, named after railroad executive Henry Jermyn. The town served as a crucial shipping point for cattle ranchers in Jack County, with the railroad bringing prosperity to this remote corner of North Texas during the late 1800s cattle boom.

RECENT

In 2020, Jermyn made headlines when it became one of the smallest incorporated cities in Texas to receive federal broadband infrastructure grants. The $2.3 million project brought high-speed internet to all 75 residents, making this tiny town more connected than many larger rural communities across the state.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter Red Lane, who penned hits for Merle Haggard including 'The Fugitive' and 'If We Make It Through December,' spent part of his childhood in Jermyn during the 1940s. Lane later credited the small-town isolation and railroad sounds of his Jermyn years as major influences on his songwriting style that would earn him Nashville fame.

DID YOU KNOW

Jermyn holds the unusual distinction of being the only incorporated city in Texas where every single resident can fit inside the original 1890s railroad depot building at the same time. The historic depot, which still stands today, was built to accommodate 100 people and now serves as the unofficial community center for the town's 75 residents during special events.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 80 residents, Jermyn maintains its own volunteer fire department and city government, making it one of the most self-sufficient micro-cities in Texas. The annual Jermyn Founders Day celebration draws visitors from across Jack County, often tripling the town's population for a single weekend as former residents and curious visitors come to experience authentic small-town Texas hospitality.
