Who delivers electricity in Jacksboro

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Jacksboro. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Quick answers

Jacksboro electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Jacksboro addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Jacksboro today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Jacksboro

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the amount of energy you will use monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Jacksboro. Why is this important?

The “price per kWh” you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much energy you consume each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your electricity plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in moments.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your chosen electricity provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

Suppose you recently purchased a home or business or cannot obtain 12 months of usage history. In that case, you can always estimate the average energy you will use in any given month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Jacksboro: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up an electricity service in Jacksboro, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home to get the best rate.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Jacksboro

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your electricity supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Jacksboro is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Jacksboro electricity rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Jacksboro was established in 1856 as the county seat of Jack County and named after brothers William and Patrick Jack, early Texas pioneers who were killed by Native Americans. The town served as a crucial frontier outpost during the Indian Wars of the 1860s-1870s, with Fort Richardson established nearby in 1867 to protect settlers from Comanche and Kiowa raids along the Texas frontier.

RECENT

In 2019, Jacksboro completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street, including the conversion of the old Jack County Jail into a museum and visitor center. The $2.3 million project has attracted new businesses and increased tourism, with the historic courthouse square now hosting regular festivals and farmers markets.

OTHER

FAMOUS PEOPLE/EVENTS: Jacksboro was the site of the famous Warren Wagon Train Raid trials in 1871, where Kiowa chiefs Satanta and Big Tree were tried for murder in the first trial of Native American leaders in a U.S. civilian court. The trial drew national attention and marked a turning point in frontier justice, with General William T. Sherman personally testifying as the key witness in this landmark case.

DID YOU KNOW

Jacksboro is home to one of the most unusual courthouse features in Texas - a time capsule buried in 1884 that wasn't supposed to be opened until 1984, but was accidentally discovered during renovation work in 1972. When opened, it contained newspapers, photographs, and a bottle of whiskey that was still perfectly preserved, leading to an impromptu celebration by the construction crew who 'tested' the contents.

CULTURAL

Every October, Jacksboro hosts the unique 'Lost Creek Reservoir Striper Tournament,' which has become one of North Texas's premier fishing competitions, drawing anglers from across the region to compete for striped bass in the 3,400-acre lake. The tournament coincides with the annual Fort Richardson Days festival, where locals dress in period costumes and reenact frontier life, complete with cavalry demonstrations and Native American cultural presentations that honor the complex history of the area.
