Who delivers electricity in Itasca

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Itasca. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Itasca electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Itasca’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Itasca addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Itasca today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Itasca, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

You have the power to choose your home’s electric company in Itasca.

These official rates are the identical prices you’ll find contacting the energy providers or visiting their websites.

Electricity in Itasca is deregulated. As an energy consumer, you can choose a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you control and power over your energy bills.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of the state, the city of Itasca included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Itasca by offering low prices, making it a great time to compare, switch, and lower costs on your electricity bill.

As many as 65+ energy companies compete for your business in Itasca, and hundreds of plans exist to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Itasca

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Understanding the amount of electricity you will consume each month is the ideal way to shop for power in Itasca. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume in a month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for an energy company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to find your home’s ideal energy rate plan.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you signing-up with your chosen energy provider without ever having to leave our website.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Moving to Itasca: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Itasca, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home to get the best rate.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Itasca

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing energy company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

  • You don’t have to call your current provider to cancel (no “break-up call”)
  • No one comes to your home
  • There is no disruption in your power supply
  • It takes just minutes

When you switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Itasca is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days early from your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the lowest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine your household’s best plan with the lowest rate.

Itasca electricity rates FAQs

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Itasca was founded in 1881 when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad built through the area, with the town named after Lake Itasca in Minnesota, the source of the Mississippi River. The railroad brought prosperity to this small Hill County community, making it a vital shipping point for cotton and grain from the surrounding agricultural region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

RECENT

In 2020, Itasca completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Main Street and added new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, breathing new life into the small town's commercial district and attracting new businesses to the area.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Itasca was the childhood home of Ellis Kinder, who became a Major League Baseball pitcher and played for the St. Louis Browns and Boston Red Sox in the 1940s and 1950s. Kinder was known for his exceptional control and later became a successful pitching coach, but he always credited his small-town Texas upbringing for teaching him the work ethic that made his professional career possible.

DID YOU KNOW

Itasca is home to one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in Texas, Itasca General Store, which has been serving the community since 1883. The store still operates with many of its original fixtures, including a hand-cranked cash register and wooden display cases, and locals joke that you can still buy everything from penny candy to farm equipment under one roof, just like in the 1800s.

CULTURAL

Every October, Itasca hosts the annual 'Wampus Cat Festival,' celebrating a local legend about a mysterious creature that supposedly roams the nearby Brazos River bottoms. The festival features live music, local crafts, and storytelling contests where residents share their own Wampus Cat sightings, keeping alive a piece of East Texas folklore that has been passed down through generations of Hill County families.
