Who delivers electricity in Gatesville

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Gatesville. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Gatesville electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Gatesville addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Gatesville today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Gatesville

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Determining how much electricity you will consume each month is the ideal way to find a deal on energy in Gatesville. Why is this so vital?

You see power providers advertising the “price per kWh” for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much electricity you consume in a month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to pick your energy company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your home.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months. It is the best way to determine your home’s ideal electricity rate plan.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers, and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then help you sign up with your selected electricity company without ever leaving our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy company at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Gatesville: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Gatesville, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Gatesville

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is vital to shop for a lower price every year when your contract expires.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Gatesville is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the lowest rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Gatesville was founded in 1854 and named after Fort Gates, a frontier military post established in 1849 to protect settlers from Comanche raids. The fort was named after Collinson Reed Gates, who died at the Battle of Monterrey during the Mexican-American War, making Gatesville one of the few Texas towns named after a war hero who never actually visited the area.

RECENT

In 2020, Gatesville completed construction of a new $45 million courthouse, replacing the historic 1897 courthouse that had served Coryell County for over 120 years. The new facility incorporates modern security features and technology while maintaining architectural elements that honor the city's historic character, including limestone facades that echo the original building's design.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Gatesville was home to the notorious Bonnie Parker of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde duo, who spent time at the Gatesville State School for Girls in the 1920s before her life of crime began. The facility, originally called the State Training School for Girls, was where Parker was sent as a teenager for minor infractions, and some historians believe her experience there contributed to her later rebellious path.

DID YOU KNOW

Gatesville is home to four separate correctional facilities within the city limits, housing over 10,000 inmates and making it one of the most prison-dense cities in America. The facilities include the Mountain View Unit, which houses Texas's female death row, and the Hughes Unit, making Gatesville's inmate population nearly equal to its civilian population of about 15,000 residents.

CULTURAL

Every October, Gatesville hosts the annual Cotton Festival, celebrating the area's agricultural heritage with a unique twist—the festival features a cotton module decorating contest where local businesses and organizations transform giant rectangular bales of cotton into elaborate themed displays. The tradition began in the 1980s and has grown to attract thousands of visitors who come to see everything from cartoon characters to historical scenes crafted entirely from cotton bales, making it one of Texas's most unusual fall festivals.
