Yes — most Edgewood addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

How to find the best energy plan in Edgewood

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing the amount of electricity you will consume month-to-month is the ideal way to shop for energy in Edgewood. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you use the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you enrolled.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to shop for electricity rates.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.

Even better, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans, and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you enroll with your chosen energy provider without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before picking the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Edgewood: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Edgewood, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage using our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when renewing your existing plan or possibly switching plans.

Switching electricity companies in Edgewood

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract expires.

Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing energy companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Edgewood is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can pick any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Edgewood was founded in 1881 when the Texas and Pacific Railway came through Van Zandt County, establishing a depot that would become the heart of the community. The town was named for its location on the edge of a dense forest, and it quickly became a shipping point for cotton, timber, and agricultural products from the surrounding East Texas farmland.

RECENT

In 2020, Edgewood completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Highway 80 and created new community spaces. The project included the renovation of the old mercantile building into a community center and the establishment of a farmers market pavilion that now hosts weekly events drawing visitors from across Van Zandt County.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music songwriter and performer Don Cook, who wrote hits for Brooks & Dunn and George Strait, grew up in Edgewood during the 1960s. Cook later became a prominent Nashville producer and credited his small-town East Texas upbringing for inspiring many of his most successful songs about rural American life.

DID YOU KNOW

Edgewood is home to one of the last remaining original Texas and Pacific Railway depots in East Texas, built in 1882 and still standing today. The depot served as a crucial stop for both freight and passenger service for over 70 years, and local legend claims that notorious outlaw Sam Bass once hid in the depot's freight room while evading lawmen in 1878, though this predates the building's actual construction.

CULTURAL

Every October, Edgewood hosts the annual 'Heritage Days Festival' that celebrates the town's railroad and timber heritage with authentic steam engine demonstrations and old-fashioned logging competitions. The festival features a unique 'rail-splitting contest' where participants use traditional tools to split railroad ties, keeping alive the skills that built the town over 140 years ago.
