Who delivers electricity in Cross Roads

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Cross Roads. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

Yes — most Cross Roads addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Cross Roads today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Cross Roads

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining how much electricity you will consume monthly is the best way to shop for electricity in Cross Roads. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume in the month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to pick your energy plan.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Better still, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the best way to discover the energy rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers to guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.

We then help you order your plan with your selected power company without leaving our website.

The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before picking the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Cross Roads: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Cross Roads, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home to get the best rate.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

Acquiring usage for the past 12 months may take effort, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Cross Roads

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, shop the rates of competing electricity companies.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will handle everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Cross Roads is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Cross Roads was established in the 1840s as a rural farming community at the literal crossroads of two major cattle trails and trading routes in North Texas. The town got its name from being situated at the intersection of what are now FM 424 and FM 2931, where travelers would stop to rest and resupply before continuing their journeys to Dallas or Fort Worth.

RECENT

In 2020, Cross Roads completed a major infrastructure upgrade project that brought high-speed fiber internet to all residents and businesses in the city. This $2.3 million investment has attracted several tech startups and remote workers to the area, transforming the small agricultural town into a modern connected community while maintaining its rural charm.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Cross Roads was the childhood home of NASCAR driver Sterling Marlin, who won the Daytona 500 twice in 1994 and 1995. Marlin learned to drive on the rural roads around Cross Roads and often credits his small-town upbringing for teaching him the patience and precision that made him successful on the racetrack.

DID YOU KNOW

Cross Roads is home to one of the last remaining original Pony Express relay stations in Texas, which still stands on private property along FM 424. The stone building, constructed in 1860, served as a crucial stop for mail carriers traveling between Dallas and the Oklahoma Territory, and local legend claims that outlaw Jesse James once hid there during a thunderstorm in 1874.

CULTURAL

Every October, Cross Roads hosts the annual 'Crossroads Heritage Festival' where residents recreate life in the 1800s with period costumes, blacksmith demonstrations, and authentic chuck wagon cooking. The festival draws visitors from across North Texas who come to experience what life was like when Cross Roads was truly at the crossroads of frontier commerce and cattle drives.
