Who delivers electricity in Coppell

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Coppell. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Coppell electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Coppell’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Coppell addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Coppell today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Coppell, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

How to find the best energy plan in Coppell

#1 rule: Know your usage!

Determining the amount of electricity you will consume in a month is the best way to shop for energy in Coppell. Why is this so vital?

The rate you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in a month.

Unless you use precisely the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying a “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for energy rates.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by the total monthly bill is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the right electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and guiding you to the best electricity plan for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then assist you in enrolling with your selected electricity company without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you should determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the best energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Coppell: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Coppell, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you cannot obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage by utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code, the tool can assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Coppell

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly higher than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you, including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Coppell is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and want to know how to find the best plan, remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the best rate.

Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Coppell was founded in 1890 as Gibbs Station, named after Barnett Gibbs who donated land for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad depot. The town was later renamed Coppell in 1892 to honor George Coppell, a wealthy New York financier and railroad investor who helped fund the railroad's expansion through North Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Coppell completed construction of the $45 million Coppell Nature Park, a 66-acre facility featuring wetlands, walking trails, and an environmental education center. The park was built on former landfill property and represents one of the most successful brownfield-to-greenspace conversions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe grew up in Coppell and attended Walla Walla High School before transferring. He later became the first overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft and played 14 seasons in the NFL, including leading the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl appearance in 1996.

DID YOU KNOW

Coppell is home to the world's largest collection of vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia outside of the company's own archives, housed in a private museum called the Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia. The collection includes over 50,000 items dating back to the 1890s, including rare advertising signs, bottles, and even a 1930s soda fountain.

CULTURAL

Coppell has maintained its small-town charm despite rapid growth by implementing strict architectural guidelines that require all commercial buildings to incorporate brick and traditional design elements. The city also hosts the annual 'Coppell Farmers Market' which has operated continuously since 1985 and features over 40 local vendors selling everything from organic produce to handmade crafts.
