Who delivers electricity in Celeste

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Celeste. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Celeste electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Celeste’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Celeste addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Celeste today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Celeste, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

Electricity in Celeste is deregulated. As an energy consumer, you have a choice when choosing a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you insight and command over your energy bills.

Deregulation of electricity in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for the majority of the state, the city of Celeste included, which introduced lots of competition.

As a result, many fantastic energy companies compete for your business in Celeste by offering low prices, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your power bill.

As many as 100+ retail electricity providers compete for your account in Celeste, and there are hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Celeste

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Knowing how much energy you will use in a month is the best way to find a deal on power in Celeste. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying a practical “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you ordered.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy rate.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on anticipated monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate.

Better yet, if you have a year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method considers the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to find the right energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and navigating you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.

We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your monthly bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen power company without ever having to leave our service.

The takeaway is that you must know your expected or historical usage before picking the best electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you cannot acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Celeste: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Celeste, to get the best rate, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain a usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below, and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

By signing up for a plan through Compare Power, you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or possibly switch plans.

Switching electricity companies in Celeste

Switching is good. Market conditions are constantly in flux, so it is vital to shop for a lower rate yearly when your contract expires.

Your existing energy provider will raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate significantly more than the plan you signed up for.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract, check the rates of competing energy providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars yearly on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you, including terminating service with your previous provider.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Celeste is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days before your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee of breaking your existing contract.

If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill, and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest price.

You will want to find your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Celeste was founded in 1876 when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad came through Hunt County, establishing a depot and naming the town after Celeste Dyer, the daughter of a railroad official. The town quickly became a shipping point for cotton and other agricultural products, with the railroad bringing prosperity to this small farming community in Northeast Texas.

RECENT

In 2020, Celeste completed a major downtown revitalization project that restored several historic buildings along Commerce Street and added new sidewalks and period lighting. The project was funded through a combination of state grants and local fundraising efforts, breathing new life into the town's historic commercial district.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music singer and songwriter Don Henley of the Eagles was born in nearby Gilmer but spent part of his childhood in the Celeste area, where his family had farming connections. The rural East Texas landscape around Celeste influenced some of his later songwriting about small-town American life and values.

DID YOU KNOW

Celeste is home to one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in East Texas, originally built in 1885 and still serving the community today. The store has survived the Great Depression, two world wars, and numerous economic changes while maintaining its original tin ceiling and wooden floors, making it a living piece of Texas history.

CULTURAL

Every October, Celeste hosts the annual Celeste Bluegrass Festival, which draws musicians and visitors from across Texas and neighboring states to this tiny town of just over 800 residents. The festival transforms the quiet community into a bustling hub of traditional music, with performances held in the town square and local venues, celebrating the area's deep musical heritage.
