Who delivers electricity in Blue Ridge

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Blue Ridge. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Blue Ridge electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Blue Ridge’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Blue Ridge addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Blue Ridge today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

How to find the best energy plan in Blue Ridge

#1 rule: Usage is king!

Discovering the amount of energy you will use month-to-month is the ideal way to find a deal on electricity in Blue Ridge. Why should you care?

The rate you see power providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).

Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is calculated, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use in the month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy rate.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your home.

Better still, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the ideal electricity plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you in an instant. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and guide you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your household’s usage.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you in signing up with your chosen power provider without ever having to leave our website.

The takeaway here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before selecting the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Blue Ridge: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Blue Ridge, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when its time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Blue Ridge

Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing energy provider will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your electricity bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity company will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous company.

There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Blue Ridge is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early cancellation” fee. That’s Texas Law.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly best rate.

You will want to gather your past usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Blue Ridge was founded in 1876 as a railroad town along the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad, originally called 'Mantua' after a local landowner's hometown in Ohio. The town was renamed Blue Ridge in 1879 when residents decided they wanted a name that reflected the rolling hills and scenic beauty of their Collin County location, even though Texas has no actual blue ridges like those found in Appalachia.

RECENT

In 2020, Blue Ridge completed a major downtown revitalization project that transformed their historic King Street corridor into a charming Main Street district with new sidewalks, period lighting, and landscaping. The project also included the restoration of several 1800s-era buildings that now house local businesses and a community center, helping preserve the town's small-town character despite rapid growth in surrounding areas.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Blue Ridge was the childhood home of Audie Murphy, America's most decorated World War II soldier who later became a Hollywood actor starring in over 40 films. Murphy lived on a sharecropper farm just outside Blue Ridge during the Great Depression, and his experiences of rural poverty shaped his character and determination that would later make him a war hero at age 19.

DID YOU KNOW

Blue Ridge is home to one of Texas's most unusual annual events - the Blue Ridge Bluegrass Festival, which features a competitive 'Chicken Flying Contest' where live chickens are gently launched from a small platform to see which one can 'fly' the farthest. The record holder, a hen named Gertrude, managed to glide 47 feet in 1998, and her feat is still commemorated with a small plaque in the town square.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 1,000 residents, Blue Ridge maintains one of the oldest continuously operating volunteer fire departments in North Texas, founded in 1923. The department's antique 1940s fire truck still participates in local parades and community events, and every resident is considered an honorary member, reflecting the town's strong tradition of neighbors helping neighbors that has persisted for over a century.
