Who delivers electricity in Bagwell

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Bagwell. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Bagwell electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Bagwell’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Bagwell addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Bagwell today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

We currently price 122 plans in Bagwell, every one from a PUCT-licensed provider we work with, priced with delivery included.

Deregulation of energy in the state de-monopolized the energy market for the majority of the state, the city of Bagwell included, which introduced lots of competition.

How to find the best energy plan in Bagwell

#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!

Discovering the amount of energy you will use each month is the best way to find a deal on power in Bagwell. Why should you care?

The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 1000 kWh).

Every plan has a different equation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will be determined by how much power you use each month.

Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you enrolled.

Fortunately, there’s a better way to select your electricity company.

Calculating your expected monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for you.

Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the right electricity rate plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.

We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.

We clarify the fine print, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your monthly bill.

We then help you in enrolling with your chosen power company without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the right energy plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

While not as optimal as having all the previous 12 months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.

Use Compare Power to find the best energy plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Bagwell: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Bagwell, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.

Sign-up for a plan instantly through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to come back to switch and save at the end of the plan length you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Bagwell

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower price each year when your contract is about to expire.

Your existing electricity provider will typically raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you decide to switch, your new electricity provider will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Bagwell is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.

And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching companies may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.

If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest price.

You will want to gather your past usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Bagwell was established in the 1880s as a small farming community along the railroad line that connected East Texas to larger markets. The town was named after an early settler family who operated a general store and cotton gin, serving as the economic hub for surrounding farms that grew cotton, corn, and raised cattle in the fertile Red River valley.

RECENT

In 2020, Bagwell became part of a rural broadband expansion initiative that brought high-speed internet to the community for the first time. This $2.3 million project connected over 200 rural homes and businesses in Red River County, allowing residents to work remotely and students to participate in online learning during the pandemic.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

While Bagwell itself is small, nearby Clarksville was the birthplace of blues legend Lightnin' Hopkins in 1912. Hopkins, who became one of the most influential country blues musicians of all time, grew up in the same Red River County area as Bagwell and often referenced the rural East Texas landscape in his songs.

DID YOU KNOW

Bagwell sits just 15 miles from the Red River, which forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma, and the area was once a major smuggling route during Prohibition in the 1920s. Bootleggers would ferry illegal alcohol across the river at night, and several old barns in the Bagwell area still contain hidden compartments that were used to store contraband liquor.

CULTURAL

Despite having fewer than 200 residents, Bagwell maintains a strong sense of community through its annual Labor Day barbecue and fundraiser, which has been held continuously since 1952. The event brings together families from across Red River County for homemade barbecue, live country music, and a silent auction that helps fund the volunteer fire department and community center maintenance.
