Who delivers electricity in Angleton

TNMP owns and maintains the poles, wires, and meters in Angleton. Whichever plan you pick, TNMP still delivers the power and restores outages — switching providers never changes your wires. Every price on this page already includes TNMP delivery charges. If a rate elsewhere looks lower, check whether delivery is in it yet.

Quick answers

Angleton electricity questions, answered

As of August 2026, plans we offer in the TNMP territory average 16.6¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh of monthly use, and today’s lowest effective rate is 8.2¢. Advertised rates move with your usage, so price plans at your own numbers.

TNMP is Angleton’s transmission and delivery utility. It owns the wires and meters and restores outages. You choose your retail electricity provider; TNMP delivers no matter who you pick.

Yes — most Angleton addresses have smart meters, so orders placed by 5 p.m. on a business day can start the same day. Pick your start date at checkout, up to 90 days ahead.

Compare effective rates at YOUR usage, not advertised rates — fees and bill credits bend each plan differently. Check the contract length and cancellation fee, then confirm delivery charges are included. The tables on this page do all three, and checkout takes about ten minutes.

Yes. Texas law gives you a 14-day window before your contract end date to switch with NO early-termination fee. Find your end date on your bill, then shop it today — the expensive move is drifting onto a holdover rate.

It changes with your usage. The lowest effective rate we price in Angleton today is 8.2¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh — but a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh can lose at 2,000. Enter your ZIP and usage to see which company is cheapest for your home.

Electricity in Angleton has been deregulated. As a consumer of energy, you have a choice when it comes to selecting a retail electricity provider (your energy company), which gives you flexibility and power over your energy bill.

Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of Texas, the city of Angleton included, which introduced massive competition.

As a result, many fantastic power providers compete for your business in Angleton by offering low rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save costs on your electricity bill.

As many as 60-100 retail electricity providers compete for your account in Angleton and there are hundreds of plans to sort through.

How to find the best energy plan in Angleton

#1 rule: Know Your Usage!

Determining how much electricity you will use monthly is the best way to find a deal on power in Angleton. Why should you care?

The rate you see energy providers advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).

Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much electricity you use each month.

Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you signed up.

Thankfully, there’s a better way to choose your energy company.

Calculating your total monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.

Even better, if you have an entire year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between the summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to determine the perfect energy plan for your home.

Compare Power does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in just moments.

We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the energy rate plan that’s best for your home’s usage.

We clarify the details, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.

We then assist you in ordering your plan with your selected energy provider without ever having to leave our service.

The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before choosing the right electricity plan for your home.

If you don’t know your usage, estimate

If you are unable to acquire 12 months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.

Although knowing the previous 12 months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.

Use Compare Power to shop for the best electricity plan for your**specific usage.

Moving to Angleton: Setting up electricity

If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Angleton, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.

Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.

This information is readily found in recent billing statements.

It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.

Once you have historical usage, Compare Power will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.

Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.

Sign-up for a plan in minutes through Compare Power. We will remind you when it’s time to return to switch and save at the end of the plan term you decide on.

Switching electricity companies in Angleton

Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate every year when your contract is close to expiring.

Your existing electricity company will normally raise your electricity rate once your term expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up.

Electric plug on hundred dollar bills with utility bill showing balance and electric charges

Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing electricity providers.

Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.

Switching is easy:

When you make the switch, your new energy provider will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous company.

Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Angleton is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.

The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.

You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. Texas law protects you here.

If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.

The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.

For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.

If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that knowing your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest rate.

You will want to gather your historical usage for the last 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

Did You Know?

HISTORICAL

Angleton was founded in 1890 by Lewis Bryan and named after his wife's maiden name, George Angle. The town was strategically established along the Santa Fe Railroad line, which made it a crucial shipping point for cotton, cattle, and later oil during the early Texas boom years. The railroad connection transformed Angleton from a small farming community into the county seat of Brazoria County by 1897.

RECENT

In 2020, Angleton completed a major downtown revitalization project that included the restoration of the historic Brazoria County Courthouse and the creation of a new civic plaza. The $15 million project brought new businesses, restaurants, and cultural venues to the downtown core, helping to attract young families and reverse decades of population decline in the city center.

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Country music star Clay Walker was born and raised in Beaumont but got his start performing in honky-tonk bars around Angleton in the late 1980s. He was discovered while playing at a local venue and went on to have multiple number-one hits on the country charts. Walker still maintains strong ties to the Angleton area and frequently returns for charity events and local performances.

DID YOU KNOW

Angleton is home to one of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in Southeast Texas, the Brazos Drive-In Theatre, which has been operating continuously since 1952. The theater survived the decline of drive-ins in the 1980s by showing double features and hosting classic car shows, and it gained renewed popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic when outdoor entertainment became highly sought after.

CULTURAL

Angleton hosts the annual Brazoria County Fair, which has been running for over 75 years and is one of the largest county fairs in Texas. The fair features traditional livestock shows, carnival rides, and a famous barbecue cook-off that draws competitors from across the Gulf Coast region. The event typically attracts over 100,000 visitors during its week-long run each October, making it the city's biggest economic driver of the year.
